Our Ecological and Ethical Commitment

We are grateful for your support for BatikWalla, an independent and selectively small artwork/clothing company. Victoria is passionate about batik art and the natural environment. This is reflected in her unusual designs as well as the traditional method used to produce such beautiful and enduring clothes. We believe that one of the main reasons for Victoria's success is her artistic hands-on approach and conscious creativity that goes into each piece.

Natural Beeswax
BatikWalla uses only pure and unprocessed beeswax obtained from local bee keepers as the key painting resist for batik. Although beeswax tends to change from season to season it does require a certain amount of patience and determination to flex with its variations; nonetheless, Victoria thoroughly enjoys the challenge of working with such a unique and natural element. Since the early beginnings almost two decades ago this small company discovered the simplicity and beauty of ultra-basic batik materials and its respect to the earth and nature.

Slow Fashion Means No Wasteful Overproduction
Even as demand for BatikWalla clothing has grown, Victoria has chosen to keep her company small. The freestyle designs, the small dyebaths, the hang drying and finally the labor intensive, yet chemical-free cleaning process determines that the clothing is not rushed to be created. The clothes are cleaned in a simple cauldron of boiling water over an open flame in small batches for several hours. This very traditional process also secures the dye to the fabric and almost completely eliminates residual 'bleeding' or fading of the colors for years to come of regular wash and wear.

Ethical Awareness
All of the clothing used in Victoria's batik designs is originally manufactured by companies who demonstrate that their workers earn a fair wage. Considering the amount of time and energy poured into creating finished batik garments, we intend to work only with clothing from clean, fair wage origins. BatikWalla actively incorporates organic cotton and hemp fabrics in her clothing line in varying degrees, depending on production ability or season and availability.
